3d printing, 3d scanning, and 3d-printed octopus.
You know the drill.
We’re talking about 3D printing and 3D scanning for octopus parts.
Nowhere is this more evident than at the University of North Carolina, where a 3D printer was used to create a replica of a Sea urchinus shell.
We don’t have a lot of octopus shells around here, but a couple of weeks ago, we did have an opportunity to see one of the species in person, and it was amazing.
We had the chance to try out the new 3D printed octopuses at the Durham Museum of Natural History, where they’re kept.
And, well, the best part was how the octopus looks.
The shell is made of resin, which is a porous material that gives it an incredibly realistic look.
And the resin is filled with water, which creates a porous structure that creates a hollow shell, which also gives it a great look.
The next step is to cut the shell, and then we use the 3D-printing machine to create the part.
When we cut the octopus shell, we use a cutting blade that’s about a foot long and it can actually cut the surface of the resin.
We then use a laser cutter that is a bit longer than the machine, but it doesn’t cut the resin at all.
It just goes to the surface.
The resin is made up of two different types of materials.
The first type of resin is called Nylon, which has a thick surface and is usually used for plastics, but is used for the plastic parts in a variety of different things.
The second type of plastic resin is the polyester resin, and the polyesters have a very thick, flexible surface.
This is the type of material we’re interested in, because it has such a nice, smooth surface.
We don’t want to cut it at all, so we use this cutting blade.
Then we use three different sizes of the cutting blades to make the parts.
The cutting blades are the same sizes as in the original octopus, so it’s just a matter of size and shape.
We use these different sizes to create three different octopus heads, which we then cut out.
Each of these octopus head is a very detailed piece of 3D modeling, but the most intricate part is the head.
Because we can print the head out so precisely, we can really get an amazing looking model of the octo octopus without needing to print a whole lot of plastic.
Once the octoplasm is cut out, we simply remove the resin, place the 3d model on the shell and the silicone is poured in and we’re ready to go.
We are so excited to be able to share this experience with the world, and we hope that people will learn something from it.
